Freshman Texas Sen. Ted Cruz will make his maiden voyage to an early presidential primary state next month, a trip that will only continue to stoke speculation that he has his designs on the White House.

Cruz will headline the Republicans’ Silver Elephant Dinner on May 3 in Columbia, according to The Post & Courier.

The kicker is that he speaks on the same night that Vice President Joe Biden is in town speaking at the Democratic party’s fundraiser.

The Elephant Dinner will feature a tribute to former Sen. Jim DeMint, a Cruz endorser who is now head of the Heritage Foundation.
